At Fox Flight Customs, we love when a project lets us think big. So when WDWNT came to us with the idea of creating a larger-than-life inflatable version of Gertie the Dinosaur—an iconic figure beloved by Disney’s Hollywood Studios fans—we knew this would be a challenge worth taking on.
The Client’s Vision
WDWNT wanted a piece that would immediately grab attention, serve as a centerpiece for events, and delight fans with its sheer scale. The brief? Make Gertie larger-than-life, while still true to her classic look. Specifically, they needed something durable, detailed, and big enough to stand out: 7 feet tall and 9 feet wide.
The Fox Flight Solution
Our design team worked closely with WDWNT to translate Gertie’s signature look into an inflatable form that was both accurate and practical. That meant rethinking proportions, color placement, and seam locations to keep her recognizable while ensuring structural integrity.
We sourced durable outdoor-grade materials that could hold up to multiple uses—whether indoors or out—and engineered the inflatable to maintain its shape without sagging or distortion. Every curve and detail was carefully considered, from Gertie’s gentle face to the roundness of her tail, so fans would recognize her instantly.
The Final Result
The finished inflatable Gertie came in at an impressive 7 feet tall and 9 feet wide, striking the perfect balance between portability and wow factor.
